What is Hajj?

Hajj (الحج) is the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah — the fifth and final pillar of Islam. It takes place during the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah and consists of a series of rituals performed over five days. It is obligatory once in a lifetime for every Muslim who is physically and financially able.

وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا
